MAJOR SOCCER LEAGUE
Introduction:
The league which involves teams from Canada and the United States is generally called the Major League Soccer (MLS), which is a professional soccer league. The Major League Soccer is certified by the qualified sections of both the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) and the United States Soccer Federation (U.S. Soccer or USSF) both the associations are affiliated to FIFA. The Major League Soccer symbolizes the top row in the Soccer Pyramid of America. The competition of the MLS contains 13 teams that are divided in two conferences – the Eastern Conference consisting of seven teams while the Western Conference consisting of six teams. Consistently separated among abroad and home matches each team plays a total of 30 games. The conference championships can be considered as the knockout or deciding tournaments, because the victorious team of each conference will proceed towards the Major League Soccer Cup. The draws in all rounds will be provided with a 2-15 minute periods of extra time, if required a penalty kick can also be used.
History:
In return for the organization rights of the FIFA World Cup USA 1994 in the United States, and the US Soccer Federation’s assurance to FIFA to create a “Division One” professional soccer league, the Major League Soccer was created. It got established on 17th December 1993, by Alan Rothenberg. In the year 1996, the league started to play with ten teams with respect to a promising number of spectators expected to attend the season. Soon after the first season, the number of people attending the game decreased but later on it increased again. |
