SOCCER GENESIS
Introduction:
The genesis of the Soccer game can be inferred from the history, the games comprising of the kicking the ball has revolved around many nations. Based on the estimate of the FIFA, the governing body for the game of football, the earliest known form of soccer game can date as far back as the 3rd and the 2nd Century BC. At that time, the game was played by the name “Cuju” in China. It is also estimated that “Harpastum” a Roman game is also considered to be the ancestor of the game of football. Numerous soccer types were played in the Medieval Europe. The rules of the game vary based on the location and the period. Although soccer was played in different forms in the UK, the public schools in England are credited for achieving certain parameters in the creation of modern soccer.

In the sixteenth century, the public schools in England and the headmaster of one such public school, Richard Mulcaster was instrumental in turning the game of football into a more organized game taking away the “mob” form of soccer, which was prevalent at that time. The organized form of the game was beneficial to most of the schoolboys. Subsequently, the game of soccer was regulated, institutionalized and made a part of a central and larger tradition. In the sixteenth century schools, many references to the game of soccer by way of poetry were studied by the then students. It is indicative of the fact that the game of soccer was present at that time. |
