SOCCER PITCH

Introduction:

A soccer pitch is basically a surface utilized primarily for the playing the game of soccer. The markings and the dimensions of the game are as per the Law 1 of the soccer “Laws of the Game”, which is the “Field of Play”. The part of the area defined for soccer play is denoted by the line markings. For instance, a ball over or which touches the touchline is considered to be on the field of play whereas, the ball which is on the goal area line is considered to be the goal area. In addition, the soccer foul that is committed on a line of over 16.5 meters is considered to be in the area of penalty. This is one of the reasons why the ball needs to completely pass over the touchline for remaining out of play. In addition, the ball needs to fully cross the boundaries of the goal line in between the soccer goal posts prior to the scoring of a goal. In case the part of the ball being on the line or over the line, the soccer ball is considered a part of the soccer play.

Miscellaneous:

It needs to be noted that the standard dimensions of the soccer pitch were mostly denoted in imperial units. This is for the fact that the original soccer laws were formulated in England. The other reason attributed is the fact that the British football at that time had a supreme hold over the IFAB. Presently, the soccer laws denote the dimensions in metric terms.
