SOCCER VIOLENCE
Introduction:
Thanks to the popularity and the glamour associated with the game of soccer, numerous fans get involve in altercations and have resulted in lot of violence. Some people deliberately cause trouble and start violence. This process is known by the term “Hooliganism”. Some fans who come to watch the game of football engage themselves into some small organized gangs naming themselves as “football firms” which seek fights with firms in which the rival clubs are supported. Both these practices originate in the English nation. This practice is also known as “English Disease”. This was mainly named after the English team involved in disorder, primarily to make other fans support either their team or the national club.

Fanaticism is considered as the main parameter as to why most of the soccer fans involve in violence. The violent nature of soccer ranges from mild altercations to a serious degree, which range from the scuffles to tragic events. In some instances, murders of soccer fans are not uncommon. A prominent instance is the murder of supporters of the Leeds united, which happened in Turkey in the year 2000. Another factor which causes violence amongst the soccer fans is the increased sense of patriotism and the lack of acceptance with respect to winning of the rival team. Most of the fans pay huge amounts of money for watching their particular team win end up becoming disappointed, when their team loses. They transform their anger with fights and arguments. This might be the root cause of soccer violence. |
