SYDNEY CITY SOCCER CLUB
Introduction:
The Sydney City Soccer Club, as the name suggests was established in the city of Sydney in Australia. It is now a defunct soccer club. The Sydney city soccer club was established in the year 1939, by the Jewish community of Sydney. At that time, it was known as “Sydney Hakoah”. These Jewish teams played from the years 1977 till the year 1986 by the name “Eastern Suburbs” and as Sydney City, in the years from 1979 till the year 1987. The Sydney City was one amongst the most successful team in the state of New South Wales. It emerged as a clear leader in the interstate competitions held in the 1970’s and the 1960’s. At that time, the coach of the Sydney Soccer Club was Bob Szatmari who is now retired. The Sydney City Club was one of the main incitors for the foundation of a national league.

The Sydney City Soccer club is the founder member of the NSL. In addition, it was the most predominant side in the competition in the initial decade, in which the team won thrice in a row from the years 1980 till the year 1982 and as much as four titles. The Sydney City Soccer Club finished in the third place only once in their lifetime. The team for the Sydney City Soccer Club was one such side, which was retained for the soccer games in the year 1987. This was done subsequent to the scrapping of the conference system at the finish of the year 1986. In the 1987 season, Sydney City Soccer Club withdrew itself from the NSL. |
